Was driving through the Forest of Dean today...is a very strange and beautifull area though i find the locals very clicky....Coleford was my delivery today and as i passed through Westbury on Trim,Cinderford and Littledean it struck me how hard it was to live there in times past..once a thriving mining area it has struggled in recent years only tourism keeping the area going.
On reaching my home imagine my shock after hearing the museum had suffered a severe fire in the roof ware 18000 old records and artifacts were stored...most were lost and with it much of the Forest history of the last 500 years...very sad.
I hope it serves notice to other organisations that keeping such records is very important and storing them in a wooden attic...well it isnt rocket science is it.
Most big organisations keep there records safe deep underground..i know theres always a risk when records are there for the public to see,but its a real shame that so many records were kept together.
