Hi growler

There was a George Frederick Fisher born in Bath in the March Quarter of 1881 ref 5c 622.

What were the names of the other children? Do you know when your father was born?

Hi Growler

Harriets maiden name looks like it could have been Edey

A Frederick Fisher married in Dec Quarter 1901 in Bath and on the same page is a Harriet Edey.

There was a George F Fisher and a Harriet A Fisher born in 1912 and 1915 in Bath with mothers maiden name of Edey.

Hi growler

Maybe he didnt put George down on the marriage cert by mistake or he never knew himself as George until his death cert.

My ancestor was baptised with a middle name and never used it throughout his life on any census, marriage certs, childrens birth certs, but when he died his middle name was given.

Hi growler,

you can get your mother maiden name by ordering the birth registery, from what you stated this looks like the correct one, benny also supplied you with your grandfather information so if you order his also you will have your gr grandparents names. I have order these before and when you do they will ask if you have any reference to ensure it is correct, if the infor you supply does match what you reference then they charge you the full cost but if it does not match they will only let you know that it was not correct and only charge you partial for checking. O0 good luck Joyce:rolleyes:

William Thomas Fisher
Year of Registration: 1908
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Bath
County: Avon, Somerset
Volume: 5c
Page: 466

Since the original birth, marriage and death registers are not open to the public, access to the information on one of these certificates is done by first searching the national birth, marriage and death indexes, that have been created by the GRO for this purpose. The indexes for the three events are divided into volumes by year following which entries are listed alphabetically. Once an entry in one of the indexes is found, you are then able to use that information to order of copy of a death, marriage or birth certificate from the GRO. Information that can be obtained from the birth index includes:

Full name of child

Maiden name of mother

Month and year of registration

Registration district (each county in England and Wales was divided up into registration districts; jurisdictions are organized and appear as they existed at the time the record was created)

Inferred county (the county is inferred based on what counties the registration district covered)
