Hi Geoff

only thing I can find which may have a bearing is perhaps a discount of the other couple, due to children born

Births Jun 1912
Matthews Nellie Dyson Penistone 9c 669

Births Dec 1918
Matthews Eric Dyson Keighley 9a 207

Thanks, Dave. That's an interesting approach. I'll have a look at that, assuming neither parent died before 1912, should be able to pick up Kreeft if they had offspring.

Searching using mother's surname 1912-1920 gives these...

Births Q1 1916
Verbestel Marcelline
Kreeft
Aston
6d 798a

Births Q3 1917
Verbestel Madeleine
Kreeft
Chester-le-S.
10a 977

Maybe the 1908 marriage is not the right one, but I can't see another Florence Annetta Kreeft or any deaths in that period

Thanks, Dave.

So that definitely takes Fred Matthews out...

I must have overlooked that one when checking the censuses for Matthews/Abell

Hi Geoff,

Florence Kreef on 1901 age 21 is a boarder at Charles W Reynolds home, a Music pianist at 85 Nunnery Lane, Micklegate, York, Yorkshire.

There is a John ABEL on 1911 census which shows him a motor mechanic at Glass manufacturer b Not known age 30 with a Annetta Abel wife age 30 married 2 years, she's down as born Ambaston Holland, Annetta signed the form - 14 Bank St, St Helens Lancashire Reg District Prescot, District no: 456. St Helens ED 26 Piece: 22780.

I wonder... England & Wales National Probate Calender Index of Wills etc - John Thomas Abell of the Waggon and Horses, Ockford Road, Goldalming Surrey, died 14 Sept 1929. Probate London 6 March to Florence Annie Abell Widow. Effects 181pounds 12s & 3d.

regards
Val

Hi Val

Many thanks for looking.

I'd found Florence in 1901 whilst looking for her parents [in another thread], but then couldn't find her until I saw the 1908 marriage.

I'm not sure about the 1911 being my Florence, as she was b. Hull, Yorkshire. Her father was Dutch, however.

Just the POB that let's it down...

I suppose we've got to question if that was the correct marriage, unless there is another John Abell/Abel in 1911

I still can't discount this census...

Interesting point about Annetta signing the form, looks to be a different person filling out the form though. Annetta signs Abell with 2 L's, the form is completed using one L for both her and John

Point being, a lot of scope for error if her writing skills were poor.

Further scrutiny of the birth place on the form looks like Amsterdam and not Ambaston, possible that John was b. Amsterdam and it was written in the wrong cell..

Thanks, Dave...

Val's 1911 find is most likely at present, which means the 1908 marriage is probably good...

She looks to be in York in 1901 (pianist), no indication of employment in 1911 to cross-reference, sadly. She appears to be the only child moving away from Hull, no other obvious marriage or death in the Hull area.
