Hi everyone,

In my tree I have Francis King marrying Mary Hastings in 1792 in River, Kent. I cannot find Mary's birth/baptism and the best I can find for Francis is the baptism of a Francis King in Dover in 1764, son of Francis and Rachael. I cannot find a marriage for Francis and Rachael nor can I find any other children born to them. I have, however, found a burial for a Francis King in River, Kent in 1764. No age is given nor the name of a parent so I don't know if he was an adult or an infant. If he is the Francis husband of Rachael it would explain why there were no more children.

What do you think and can anyone shed anymore light on Mary Hastings and Francis and Rachael - birth, marriage. parents etc?

Thanks in advance,

Emelt6ee

Hi Geoff,

I already have Edward's birth in Buckland. Francis also had another son, Thomas Francis born 1802 in Two Waters, Herts and baptised 1807 in Hemel Hempstead. Both Francis and son Thomas Francis were papermakers and the family eventually ended up in Durham where, unfortunately both Francis and Mary died in the 1830's before the Censuses started, so no help there. I also found a James King born around 1800 in Durham, also a papermaker but he died in 1850 so again missed out on a Census giving a place of birth. As he named one of his sons Francis, I believe he may also have been a child of Francis and Mary but cannot find a birth anywhere. I can find a few possibles for other children of Francis and Mary born in the late 1790's in places where there were established papermills but as two of them were girls and probably married they are impossible to find in Censuses.

I have now given up (for the moment) looking for possible children and decided to concentrate on Francis and Mary but they are just as elusive. The two deaths you find seem to imply the presence of a King family in River for quite some time. I do wish more parish registers were available on line. My chances of visiting a record Office in Kent are virtually nil at the moment.

Thanks anyway for looking for me.

Em
