From the Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate NSW Newspaper Friday 30 August 1929 Page 3

After a residence in Orange for over 50 years, during which time he earned and held the respect of the entire community, Mr. Thomas Stirling, at the age of 79 years, passed away at the Orange Hospital last week, following a serious illness, which first manifested itself in April last. Prior to that time, he was unusually active for his years and appeared to enjoy robust health. Deceased was a native of Wicks, Essex, and in his youth travelled the high seas as a sailor. At 21 years of age, however, he gave up seafaring, and came to Australia, where for a few years he lived at Hill End. He eventually came to Lucknow, where he was employed at the mines, and later as a trusted servant of the
late Mr. James Bonnor, in his Chaff cutting business. Mr. Stirling finally settled at Orange, where up to a few years ago he was the popular caretaker of the Foresters' Hall. He joined the Court Little John, Ancient Order of Foresters, in 1878, and was amongst the earliest members of his society in Orange. He was an enthusiastic worker for his lodge, and filled, various important offices during his long association with the above order. His life was a long and useful one, and one in which his pleasing and courteous disposition won him many staunch friends. His wife, whom he married in Orange over 50 years ago— they celebrated their golden wedding last November — survives him at the age of 77 years. At the present she is not enjoying the best of health herself, and every sympathy will have extended her in the loss of her life's partner. Mrs. Stirling was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Dodd, who were very old residents of Bathurst. The following children also survive: Mesdames Francisco (Dubbo),
Goswell (Bathurst), Bates (Burwood), and Messrs. Harold (Chatswood), Walter (North Sydney), Thomas (Leichhardt) and George and Leslie (Sydney). Twenty-one grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral took place from his late residence in Dora-street to St. John's Presbyterian Church, where a short service was held, and proceeded thence to the Presbyterian portion of the Orange Cemetery.

Fix tThe mourners at the graveside included representatives of the Foresters' Lodge.

Ann Mary Stirling died 3 Jan 1938 and is buried with her husband at the Orange General Cemetery Orange New South Wales, Australia. Presbyterian, Sec: 2, Row: 39, Grave: 2.
