hi,

By looking at the census and birth registrations, Alexander James Freeman was born a Freeman. His father Alexander born abt 1867 Bath Somerset, mother Adelaide, and this looks like the marriage to a Adelaide Mary Green in in Colchester Essex 1887.

I found this information:

parent Alexander Freeman, Hannah Freeman

name Alexander Freeman
event Census
event date 1871
gender Male
age 6
relationship to head of household Son
birthplace Bath, Somerset
record type Household
registration district Bath
sub-district Walcot & St Swithin
event parish Walcot
county Somersetshire

Could this still be my Alexander James SR even though he was born in 1867, not 1865 so he would have been 4 at census time and not 6?

Everything matches up except his age and birth date. I am trying to locate his parents now.

Hi,

The only Alexander Freeman I can find in Somerset (the nearest match for Alexander snr) was born abt 1814/15 this is about 8/9 years out from Alexande'rs year of birth in 1871. This Alexander died in 1878. I haven't been able to find anything on him in 1851/61/71 nor can I find anything on Alexander born abt 1823. I'm just wondering if they are the same persons. 1841 has Alexander's wife Ann born abt 1821. Alexander in1871 wife is Hannah born abt 1841. I can see a marriage registration for Alexander and Ann in 1842 Bath Somerset but nothing for Alexander and Hannah

I believe this is Clara in the 1901 Census. The birthdate and age match up with the 1881 Census except the birthplace lists her as being born in St Pancras, Middlesex, England on the 1881 Census.

name Clara Hogg
event Census
event date 31 Mar 1901
gender Female
age 44
relationship to head of household Wife
birthplace Stroud, Gloucestershire
record type Household
registration district Stroud
sub-district Stroud
ecclesiastical parish Stroud St Lawrence
civil parish Stroud
county Gloucestershire

Hi,
I doubt that census is the Clara your looking for. The above Clara is noted as wife therefore Hogg is her married name whereas your Clara has the name Hogg as her birth name.

I agree, i dont think Frank and Alexander are brother. The Freeman names seems to appear so much earlier than the tragedy in 1890. I have no doubt that there must be a connection somewhere between the Hogg and Freeman families but as time go by facts sometimes get a little mixed up which leaves a jig saw puzzle to sort out.

Just a thought but does anyone know what happened to Frank after the death of his wife and baby? Maybe it was him who changed his name to Freeman after their deaths as the name Frank Hogg would have been known

I have found a couple of newspaper articles concerning the death of Pheobe and her baby. If you havent got these and would like a copy just PM me your email and i can forward them to you.

Thank you for all of the help you have provided so far. I am at a stopping point for a few days because we have to go out of town this weekend and I am trying to get everything together.

I plan to pick back up on Sunday or Monday and will continue then with what I can seem to find. Again, thank you for all the help so far. Hopefully I can begin to put the puzzle pieces together soon. Both of my uncles have paperwork regarding the connections between the Hoggs and our family and are sending them to me through the mail. One uncle has papers that came straight from a great uncle of mine in England. So maybe after I sort through those papers I can provide more information than is just showing up on the internet.

Gibbo, I would certainly love anymore information you have regarding the case. Even if it turns out they aren't related (which Im doubting because my grandmother insists they are and can remember family members discussing in length her entire childhood) I'm still intrigued by the case and want to know more.

Thanks again for all the help and I will get back to y'all sometime after the weekend.
