Frederick was a mariner and I think later a master Mariner. It looks like he and Eliza were living apart in 1881. She was still in Kent and he was in Durham:

Name Frederick Henry Thomas
Age 42
Estimated Birth Year abt 1839
Gender Male
Where born Eton, Buckinghamshire, England
Civil parish Vessels
County/Island Durham
Country England
Street Address "Sarah Mills"
Marital Status Widower
Occupation Master Mariner
Registration district South Shields
ED, institution, or vessel Sarah Mills

Name Eliza Thomas
Age 48
Estimated Birth Year abt 1833
Relationship to Head Head
Gender Female
Where born Greenwich
Civil parish Herne
County/Island Kent
Street Address 5 St Georges Terrace
Marital Status Married
Occupation In Charge Of House
Registration district Blean

He says he is a widower she says she is married.

I can't find either of them after 1881. Eliza may have died in 1909 but not sure. Any help finding them after this would be great.

Many thanks
