Could I please have a 1871 census lookup for -

Frederick Hudson approx 46yrs could be either Tatenhill, Staffs or Tattenhall Chester. Not sure where he was born but it was said that he was from Tatenhill, and he died at Sherholt Lodge, (Staffs) in c:1899 so perhaps it will be Tatenhill.

His wife should be called Elizabeth aged +/- 35yrs

Thank you
Dave

Cheshire 1871

Chester Road, Chowley (near Tattenhall)

Frederick Hudson 45 Farmer born Scropton, Derbyshire
Elizabeth Hudson 48 born Beeston, Cheshire

This would appear to be the same Frederick Hudson who appears on the 1891 Staffordshire Census living with his stepson George Augustus Hall

Have I got the right person?

Hi emeltee,

Frederick HUDSON 45 Farmer born Scropton, Derbyshire
Elizabeth HUDSON 48 born Beeston, Cheshire
This could be correct, for his first marriage. I believe that he later married Elizabeth WILLIAMS c:1884

I do not think it is the same one that you list for the 1901 census. For Frederick to be living with his stepson George HALL he would have had to marry a Mrs HALL and this doesn't work out.
The only George Augustus HALL I have is son of Thomas HALL & Ann HOLLINGSWORTH whom later married Joseph HILL and the time frames don't work.

Thank you anyway, I shall have to delve a little further.

Regards
Dave

Hello Dave,

i came across this thread by accident, but i happen to have a photograph of Fred Hudson's gravestone. Its in Yoxall, Staffs. I live close by and have many family members in that churchyard.

Its fairly clear from the inscription that he was from Tattenhall (Cheshire), NOT Tattenhill (Staffs).

I'll happily send you the pic if your interested.

Oh its a shared plot with his wife Elizabeth, who died 1929.

Hello, I was looking up Sherholt Lodge nr Yoxall, Staffs., since my gt grandmother Lizzie Neal nee Holbrook had relatives there, but don't know their names. It seems to have belonged to the Hall family for some generations and a Mrs Mary Hall contacted me c1993 and gave me a bit of info. though not what I really needed to know. Don't know if she's still there. My grandfather Charles Neal used to visit there prob.c 1900 when he was a child/teen and told ghost stories abt the place. He pronounced it Sherrod Lodge. I found a website which relates to yr Frederick Hudson by Googling for Sherholt Lodge. ref is http://gen.deltanz.net/e charles.htm which seems to belong to someone decended from his wife, nee Charles, who was married 3 times, and was born in Abbots Bromley. It was def. Tattenhall, Cheshire, where Fred came from, acc. to this website, not Tatenhill, Burton, which seems to be just coincidence. If the names Neal, Holbrook, Antill or Shirley or Fowler crop up on yr family tree, do let me know, as I'm still trying to find out who the relatives at Sherholt were. She also had relatives at either Burnaston Hall or Burnaston House(now in pieces and being rebuilt, hopefully, as it was dismantled to make way for the Toyota factory abt 15 yrs ago and hasn't been put back together yet!!)I suspect Holbrook or Antill sisters married into the families who lived at these places, which is why I can't find them. They were all from Derbys/Staffs border area. Brenda.
