Hello Dave

Didn't know you had Messiter/Messeters in Wiltshire, I'm having a spot of bother with a Thomas Messiter and Catherine Rawlings. Looks like they moved to Wales, but I think Thomas may have been in Australia.
Can't find them in 1851 or 1861 England census, one of their daughters Emma looks as though she died in New South Wales in 1929.
It's all a bit of a mess because I think Catherine died after their third child was born in 1849 (can find no death)
BTW I have Dutton's in my tree, George Rawlings b 1812 married Elizabeth Dutton a widow in 1847 and they had a son, also George the following year.
Elizabeth's daughter Emma married George's nephew William Gough in 1858.
I know keep it in the family, it's constantly happening in that part of my tree, George and Catherine were siblings and William's mother Fanny was also a sibling. My connection is to their older brother Peter Rawlings who was my 3 x g grandfather.

Don't know if there is a connection to your Messiter/Messeters as all the above were from Calne.

Mine were from Malmsbury.

Frederic b. abt 1822 was a teacher of classics at one time at Trinity College Dublin.


What was Emma's married name? I can't see her death so far in NSW in 1929.

Others have her as Hawkes, this is where it's messy. They have her baptism as 13 Feb 1853 Gelligaer,Glamorgan,Wales, where as I have her as 11 May 1845 Melksham.
I'm thinking there are two Thomas and Catherine's, but in the 1871 Welsh census is a Thomas born Calne living in Monmouthshire. Worse still is a death for Thomas in Newport in 1859.
There is a criminal record for a Thomas Messeter in Somerset who was whipped, but with no census I can't pinpoint him there at any time and where was Catherine??
The only other Thomas Messiter I can find was born in Sutton Benger and married to Matilda, and looks as though he stayed there, so I'm definitely
