From the 1871 Census I have found that my Great-Grandfather Michael Donnelly was stationed at Fulwood Barracks in Broughton Preston which I beleive was the home of the 47th Lancashire Regiment. Anyone any ideas how I can find out more about his service record. My great-grandmother Elizabeth was born in Calcutta and I would like to know how all this ties in.Many Thanks

Hi littlemo have you tried the national archives at -
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk have a look see what you can find if you click on search the archives and then search the catalogue you should get some info. They will probably have the service records. You can order online, in person or some kind person who is perhaps going to the archives will look for you, or you can hire a professional services - which may be costly, Have you used a search engine? you may get info about the barracks and his regiment. :)

hello littlemo,
This barracks is still operational and is open to the public on certain days. There is a web site but I do not have the details to hand. Hope this helps a little.

Hi

His service records at TNA should give his place of birth, age, occupation before enlistement, service number, rank, promotions, and discharge or killed records. I have one for my ancestor.
