I am looking for my Gannon roots, I have no idea where in Ireland we came from though have been told by an elderly relative that the Catholic church where all the records were was badly damaged about 1840. The family came to the uk in the 1850's mother Bridget and sons Thomas, John and William. Thomas married Margaret Murphy also from Ireland. John married Catherine Moran possibly from Co. Mayo. On an English census John is listed as coming from Galway but I have heard that the county boundaries changed. I have been looking for years but still cannot find my family. The father was also Thomas but I do not think he came to the UK, if he did he died quite soon after arrival. I am a direct descendant of Thomas and Bridget and their son Thomas and would love to know where in Ireland the family came from so even the slightest hint might help me to find out.

Hi Lucy

What part of England did they settle in?

In researching workhouse ancestors I have come across a fellow inmate called Patrick Gannon born c1841 living in Holborn, London.
