Hello forum folk...my name is Debbie, I hail from Australia and have joined this group in hope of finding more information which might piece together my family tree.
Have been at this for awhile, locating the names of my great grandmother/father x 5.
He arrived here in Australia a convict, and for sometime believed the same for her...now not so sure as it appears I may have adopted the wrong person! Lol
So, focusing more on my great grandfather....his name is John Melvey, born in London in 1805 to Thomas Melvey and Elizabeth Wise.
He was charged with grand larceny, and shipped off aboard the Surrey in 1831 to Australia where he served a 7 year sentence...his certificate of freedom is dated 1838.

I am now trying to track his steps prior to his conviction, as well as details about his wife, Jane Green and how they met.

Looking forward to sharing!

Cheers!

Hello Debbie and welcome to the Forum

I have over 50 convicts in my tree and for those transported to NSW it has proved very difficult working backwards from the conviction, even if the death reg correctly lists the names of parents.

Please have a look around the forums and then post your queries in the most appropriate ones and someone will try to answer them.

Good luck with your research.

Regards,

Dave
