Are you looking for a specific part of the country or looking for info. Personally I was bought a few genealogy books and never read them. I found you got more info by joining online forums and talking to your local history group. But maybe that's just me. There are 1 or 2 magazines that are quite good if you really want something to read.

Agreed Duckweed. A good starting point is to talk to relatives if at all possible and to see what they remember / know and go from there. Many useful and free sites on the internet and you never know what old certificates and letters etc may be lurking in a drawer somewhere.

Good hunting :).

Jay.
