Genealogy Websites

Does anyone out there know of a genealogy website that offers complete records in, lets say, the main areas of genealogy research? For example, a website has fairly complete and accurate records of BMD, but not all parish records or the latest census (1911) records are available. Or, a website has the latest census (1911) records and transcipts, but is lacking in other areas.

It seems that to cover 'all bases' a person has to subscribe to two or more websites.

Your comments appreciated. Thanks.

I think if there was one we would all be subscribing to it!
I've been with the A one for a number of years now and subscribed under Pay to View on others as and when it suits, hoarding or using credits in batches depending where my current research is leading me.
Like a lot of others I spent quite a bit on the 1911 when it came out. Currently I have about 10 weeks left of a 6 month sub to FMP which I took up from what was a good offer at the time, intending to take what I needed from 1911 during the 6 months. As time went on I have changed my opinion of the FMP site and from being initially frustrated by the search facilities I have learned that, on there, "less is more" and I find myself using it more than the other. Both are equally frustrating/pleasing as regards transcription errors but juggling between the two has been invaluable to me. (In fairness, transcribing is NOT an easy task)
It's fast reaching Make Your Mind Up Time for renewal BUT I am now convincing myself that before the internet I would have been spending way in excess of 2 subs in fuel and time value so just maybe I should continue with both sites after all................................;)

To Woodlander:
Thanks for your reply. I guess the route to go IS to subscribe to two or more genealogy websites!
Pardon my ignorance but what is "the A one"? I used "thegenealogist.uk.co" for awhile, but they don't have the latest census nor parish records from the northern part of England which I seek.
Thanks again.

the a one is ancestry. When I post it'll probably take that word out and replace it with a......y (why does that happen???) in which case it is the word relating to your ancestors that rhymes with oswestry dot co dot uk...geddit?

I don't know if ancestry will have your parish records either - they're pretty patchy. They do really well on the London ones, through a partnership with London Metropolitan Archives, but not sure what they have from elsewhere. And findmypast are the *only* ones with the 1911 census, as far as I know. Personally I have a year sub to ancestry, with a 6 month 1911-only sub to FMP to chase up the most recent rellies, and a few credits on ScotlandsPeople for those across the border. It's working well so far.

Hi Charlie,

Yep, not one site that gives it all.

One word of caution, don't order certs via these sites. Go direct to :- http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

They will be about 25% cheaper ordering direct, than from a geanealogy site. A faciliy that some do offer, but at a cost.

Good luck and good hunting.:)

I use A but also use Origins on a pay to view option. I find origins search engine is better when looking up census records but it doesn't have all the census records but does have marriage index that goes way back and some other useful records that A... doesn't have. There are a lot of free sites that are useful too, depends on what area you are covering. I can see A... free at my local library but have been housebound recently and haven't had patience to wait till I could get out. I'm lucky as I have several friends now researching the same tree and we can swap info and certificates so am not paying as much for info these days. I do my own archive searches in school holidays which is fascinating. I like to back all my information with several sources. I use family search to give me ideas where to look but don't rely on them to be accurate.
