1. Is there a source whereby names of children born to serving soldiers in India in the 19th Century can be found?
2. Was there ever a census of military families as above?
3. What criteria do I have to have to find any information should there be a 'yes' to question 1.

I looked up births for the surname Jones, in India......there's loads.:2fun:

Type in what information you may have, and see what comes up.

If your rellie has Military records, there maybe further info of family within.

The GRO has a section for overseas forces BMDs and for BMDs registered at British Consuls overseas. These are available if you have a subscription to 'The Genealogist'. If you post details of probable dates and names someone will probably look them up for you.

Have you tried The National Archives Ianto as they have many military records. I'd also try the Imperial War Museum.
