Andrew and father George show in High Church Lanark for 1871. There is a cross check with two names in High Church, an Andrew aged 25 and a George aged 56. Surname indexed as CHAMERS.
I looked today without using a surname and I didn't find any High Church in Lanarkshire. And I didn't find George or Andrew.

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks Ellie.

59th
In August 1804, while stationed in England, a second battalion of the 59th Foot was raised. The 1st Battalion sailed in the following year for the Cape of Good Hope ... From the Cape, the 1st Battalion sailed to India. In November 1810 the battalion took part in the invasion of Mauritius. In the following year they invaded Java in the Dutch East Indies. They remained in Java until 1815, when they returned to India. The unit moved from India to Ceylon in 1817, returning to India in the following year, ...

Born Ceylon abt 1817 could well be correct but the dates are 1821 - 1829 ??

Don't know if it is a 2nd marriage or that of a son.

I looked again at the library for the 1871 census and no matter what I tried I could not find it. I tried with and without surname, with and without RD. Tried Elizabeth born 1820 Lanark and living in Lanark and no luck. Tried George with and without Andrew.

Thanks Ellie.

Oh. Now I'll look for 73rd. of Foot.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/73rd_(Perthshire)_Regiment_of_Foot
In April 1809 the regiment raised a second battalion in Nottingham from local militia companies and lost its Highland status due to recruiting difficulties, becoming the 73rd Regiment of Foot. The 1st Battalion embarked at Yarmouth for a seven-month journey to New South Wales, Australia in May 1809.
... the main body of the battalion left New South Wales in April 1814 on the 'General Hewitt' for Ceylon.

The battalion took part in the Second Kandyan War in Ceylon in 1815. Following the disbanding of the 2nd Battalion in 1817, some 300 of its remaining soldiers sent out to Trincomalee to join the 1st battalion. In that year the regiment took part in suppressing the Uva Rebellion, losing 412 out of approximately 1,000 men.
