I am looking for a birth for George BOWDEN in Manchester. He married a lady by the name of Lilian or Lucretia and had son Harold in 1906 in Manchester. He emmigrated to South Africa with his wife and son somewhere between 1906 and 1909.
His wife lived to over 106 years and received a letter from the Queen in congratulations.
He served in the war and received a Military Cross which he had to retrieve from Buckingham Palace.
While in South Africa, he had a further son and daughter. He died in South Africa.

Regards
Jackie

Hi there have you checked the census returns? in the 1881 census I found a George aged 1 that I thought might fit the bill living at - 4, Abel Street,Manchester with parents George & Eliza ages 32 & 30. Also Samuel 8, and William 7 could this be the one? also you will probably be able to get details from the national archives about his military career and be ableto get copies. sorry no luck finding a marriage for him :)

Thanks for info. I have seen the census's, there are 3 possibles. However, none of the siblings for any of the 3 have names passed down, so it is a bit difficult without knowing which one is my george.
I will look for his military records, and that may help shed some light.

Regards
Jackie
