The Sydney Monitor (NSW : 1828 - 1838 ) - Wednesday 27 March 1833 p.2
ARGYLE MARBLE.
We have seen two chimney-pieces at
the houses of Mr. G. Clewett (Statuary),
No. 1, Bathurst-street east ; the price of
one of them is £5, that of the other £10
or £12. The first is a dull greyish mar
ble; the last is very rich, being of many
colours, whitish or grey, brown, red,
green, &c. &c. in spots and veins; very
rich in the colours. It is excessively hard.
We should not be surprised if the parlour
and drawing-room of every house in Syd
ney of any gentility be not, before ten
years are expired, furnished with Argyle
marible chimney pieces. There are great
quantities of marble of this and other
descriptions in various parts of Argyle.
And we should suppose. that chimney
pieces made of it may be wrought in Syd
ney cheaper, than chimney pieces of no
greater beauty, wrought in London and
then imported. Time however will shew.

I'd say so.

The Sydney Herald (NSW : 1831 - 1842) - Monday 17 April 1837 p.6
Death.
On Friday, the 14th instant, at his residence, Pitt-street, Mr. George Clewett, Statuary.

Still some gaps to fill if we can.

Sort out the two families who arrived in 1832.

Ann CURTIS b. abt 1807.

arrival: Sovereign
Origin: London 1831 Nov 28
Destination: Sydney 1832 Apr 2

Date Item Details Source
primary source AO 4/4824p50 [1286]
primary source AO 4/4823 [1286]
primary source AO 4/5203 [1264]
secondary source AO COD 25

I'd say this rules out the 'Mary':

arrival: Mary
Origin: London 1831 Oct 5
Destination: Sydney 1832 Feb 25

Date Item Details Source
primary source AO 4/5203 [1264]
primary source AO 4/4823 [1286]
primary source AO 4/4824p48 [1286]
secondary source AO COD 25

I can't find the ref to passengers on the 'Mary' in newspaper or find it in the list of 'Assisted' Bounty vessels.

Yeah, doesn't really fit... so probably not an issue.

Only guessing James and Martha by looking at early NSW births and deaths and seeing how many different Clewett families there seemed to be.

Still, would be worth knowing who arrived on the 'Mary' because of the possible Curtis connection. Or it's coincidence there is a Curtis family on board.

There's only one Curtis on the image that I found... the initial or title has a line through it, so I can't tell if it is male/female

The 'Sovereign' & the 'Mary' have very similar statistics, I wonder if they are the same but errors with the ship details?

On the Sovereign, there is a Mr & Mrs Clewett and a Miss Curtis.

There is not much evidence but I think there is enough to say there were two vessels - one arriving February and the other April.

I can find nothing more that helps with Ann CURTIS or Ann DEANE.

Thanks Geoff.

Did we have anything re mother of Ann CURTIS? We had the death notice which had "eldest daughter of the late Mr. Edward Curtis, of Wincanton, Somersetshire."
