George Farthing

Can anyone help with George Farthing b 1840 London living at Goswell St Clerkenwell. He is listed in 1861 census, but after that I can find no record of him. I have a diary entry which states Uncle George died 1918 Santa Cruz California. I have tried to locate him in records from US, but it is really difficult. Your help on where to find the right US records would be much appreciated.

I am not sure if this is the correct person but I found a George Farthing, crew member on the vessel Mystery (3), born in east greenwich, london, and was living in Chatham, England in 1901.
