A book on the Clarence River has the family arriving on the 'Alfred' so perhaps that was a coastal steamer from Sydney??

The Maitland Mercury and Hunter River General Advertiser (NSW : 1843 - 1893)

Thu 1 Oct 1885

On Saturday last death claimed another very old resident, in the person of Mrs. Southion sen who had reached hor 76th year. Deceased had been in the district forty years, during which time she was twice a widow, her first husband having been drowned while getting into his boat here during a slight fresh in the river. As Mrs. Southion, she has lived in Grafton for thirty years, and in her humble si>here had died as she lived, respected by all.

possible for Faithful’s death – Maitland & Hunter River Gen Advertiser Sat 15 Jan 1848

..a good deal of rain sufficient to produce a fresh in the river and from which Mr Crabbe an Innkeeper at the Falls about 20 miles above our proposed township unfortunately lost his life, a small boat in which he was accidentally upsetting and before he could be rescued, the force of the torrent bore him away. Mr Crabbe was greatly respected and has left a wife and several small children to deplore their loss. - Inquest Date 7 Feb 1848- accidental drowning



Elizabeth remarried 22 July 1850 First Falls Grafton to William Edward Southion and she died 18 Sep 1885 Grafton

I'll see what I can find. I know of lots of brick walls that won't be broken down because records for the years concerned don't exist - Furner baptism in E Sussex or Kent ?? - Presbyterian baptisms in Co Down for Hamilton - ...
