Hello,

name: George Morton
event: Census
event date: 1841
gender: Male
age: 35
birthplace: Yorkshire
record type: Household
registration district: Huddersfield
sub-district: Holmfirth
civil parish: Kirkburton
county: Yorkshire
name: Geoe Morton
event: Census
event date: 1841
gender: Male
age: 30
birthplace: Yorkshire
record type: Household
registration district: Huddersfield
sub-district: Newmill
civil parish: Kirkburton
county: Yorkshire

I'd like a look up for George in 1841 please. I'm wondering if one of them is a widower or if the spouse of either is Charlotte.

Regards,

Dave

George Morton 35
Ann Morton 12

George and Ann live at Newfold. George is a “Wool ?” and Ann is a “Wool Piecer”.
Sorry can’t quite make out George’s occupation.

Mary Morton 50
George Morton 30

Mary is a "Wool Weaver" but no occupation is given for George.

It looks as though the middle one could be the widower!

Hello Josie,

Thank you very much.

The bottom one you found I didn't have because that one is Civil parish Huddersfield.

Can you confirm for me the middle one - George age 35 - is the Sub-District Holmfirth.

I has hoping the possible match would have been New Mill.

There is a marriage in 1827 at Kirkburton for a George MORTON and a Charlotte BARRACLOUGH. I have a Charlotte born 1806 Kirkburton so I'm fishing. A daughter Ann age 12 would fit the marriage date.

name: Ann Morton
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 28 Dec 1828
baptism/christening place: Holmfirth, York, England
birth date:

Hi Dave,

Here is the Newmill one....

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 1277; Book: 1; Civil Parish: Kirk Burton; County: Yorkshire; Enumeration District: 7a; Folio: 6; Page: 7

Sub registration district – Newmill

Geoe Morton 30
Hannah Morton 25
Charles Morton 2
Sam Morton 1

This George is a labourer living at Scholes, so it looks as though the one with 12-year-old Ann is your man! (On the 1841 census, it doesn't show the status.)

:) Josie

Hello Josie,

Thanks.

Yes, I would say it's almost confirmed. Just need to rule out one more Charlotte.

Scholes is just west of Jackson Bridge where I'm hoping to prove Charlotte's brother was baptised. Some of the family seem to have moved north of Jackson Bridge to New Mill. A long way to go to prove I have the right siblings for my Jacob B. Seems strange only some of the children were baptised in a Wesleyan chapel.

Regards,

Dave
