Hello,

I'm looking for the death of George and the death of his unknown 2nd spouse.

George is listed as married not widower but where is his spouse and who is she?

1851
Civil parish: Cartworth
Ecclesiastical parish: Holmfirth
Town: Holmfirth
County/Island: Yorkshire
Country: England
Registration district: Huddersfield
Sub-registration district: Honley
Address: Holmfirth, Cartworth
MORTON, George Head Married M 45 1806 Overlooker of Woollen Factory Kirkburton Yorkshire
MORTON, Ann Daughter Unmarried F 22 1829 Kirkburton Yorkshire
MORTON, Wright Son M 0 (1 WKS) 1851 Kirkburton Yorkshire
Not Sally because I can find no marriage that fits.

Deaths Jun 1851 ??
Morton Sally Huddersfield 22 22[35] ?

This is George's first marriage:

groom's name: George Morton
groom's birth date:
groom's birthplace:
groom's age:
bride's name: Charlotte Barrowclough
bride's birth date:
bride's birthplace:
bride's age:
marriage date: 11 Feb 1827
marriage place: Kirkburton, York, England

No sign of Charlotte with George and daughter Ann in 1841 so is this Charlotte's death?

Deaths Sep 1839
Morton Charlotte Huddersfield 22 196

Or this one?

Deaths Dec 1850
MORTON Charlotte Huddersfield 22 233

If Wright is 1 week old then Charlotte was not his mother with death registered the previous year.
Something does not add up.

Births Mar 1850
Morton Wright Huddersfield 22 311

Such a huge gap would normally mean a 2nd spouse.

Regards,

Dave

This is the George Morton you refer to as being another George - married to Hannah Wood. He has 4 stepchildren, surname Wood ranging from 17 - 6 years

Hello Woody,

Thank you very much.

Ok, I'm confused now and it's only 7:17 am. :2fun:

So, what is my next question?

This is the only one I can find:

Births Mar 1850
Morton Wright Huddersfield 22 311

I think the image of the 1851 in post #1 would be handy please. I think we need to check the whole line to see if Wright is a 'son' and if he is 1 year or 1 month old.

If he is not a son then my George didn't remarry and because there seems to be no children after Ann born 1828 then Charlotte died in 1839.

I started with this:

name: Charlotte Barraclaugh
gender: Female
baptism/christening date:
baptism/christening place:
birth date: 05 Mar 1806
birthplace: KIRKBURTON,YORK,ENGLAND
death date:
name note:
race:
father's name: Benjamin Barraclaugh
father's birthplace:
father's age:
mother's name: Esther
mother's birthplace:
mother's age:
indexing project (batch) number: C09345-1
system origin: England-ODM
source film number: 828132
reference number:

and found this but no age for George:

groom's name: George Morton
groom's birth date:
groom's birthplace:
groom's age:
bride's name: Charlotte Barrowclough
bride's birth date:
bride's birthplace:
bride's age:
marriage date: 11 Feb 1827
marriage place: Kirkburton, York, England
groom's father's name:
groom's mother's name:
bride's father's name:
bride's mother's name:
groom's race:
groom's marital status:
groom's previous wife's name:
bride's race:
bride's marital status:
bride's previous husband's name:
indexing project (batch) number: I03318-7
system origin: England-EASy
source film number: 990702
reference number: Item 1 p2

then got this:

1841
Class: HO107 Piece 1277 Book: 2 Folio: 36 Page: 11
Civil Parish: Kirk Burton
County: Yorkshire
RD: Huddersfield
Sub-RD: Holmfirth
ED: 8
Address: Newfold
George Morton 35 Wool ?
Ann Morton 12 Wool Piecer

then found this:

name: Ann Morton
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 28 Dec 1828
baptism/christening place: Holmfirth, York, England
birth date:
birthplace:
death date:
name note:
race:
father's name: George Morton
father's birthplace:
father's age:
mother's name: Charlotte
mother's birthplace:
mother's age:

then the 1851 in post#1 with George, Ann and Wright. And no Charlotte in 1841 or 1851.

Thanks. Yes, we have 2 x Wright and only one birth reg.

Of the 4 deaths it seems only one fits a birth around 1850.

The aim of this topic was to find the death of my George. I found a 2nd but didn't know there was a 3rd in the same area just west of Jackson Bridge.

I'll be back whenever. :)

Name: MORTON, Ann
Registration District: Help Huddersfield
County: Yorkshire
Year of Registration: 1851
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
Spouse's last name: Not available before 1912
Volume No: Help 22

MarriageFinderâ„¢: Ann Morton married one of the following people

Thought Ann's marriage might have outside chance of helping. Appears to have married Henry Stanfield - 1861 census piece 3250 folio 131 page 21 (has daughter Georgina) next page has an Eli Morton age 32 ag lab with wife Jane & family and also a James Morton age 50 stone mason with wife also Jane - probably useless information

We have 3x George and it looks as though these fit so which one is my George, b. abt 1806?

The one who married Sarah was born abt 1804.

The one who married Hannah was born abt 1813.

Deaths Dec 1859
MORTON George Huddersfield 9a 176

Deaths Dec 1868
Morton George 60 Huddersfield 9a 238
Morton George 63 Huddersfield 9a 226

Two of them should be in 1861 so I hope spouse or occupation can separate them.

Hello Woody,

Might not be useless info. It's possible Ann's grandfather is a James MORTON, but not the 50 year old stone mason.

Might be worth trying to find a James old enough to be the father of George b. abt 1806 Kirkburton. I think this one is old enough. :D

name: James Morton
event: Census
event date: 1841
gender: Male
age: 70
birthplace: Yorkshire
record type: Household
registration district: Huddersfield
sub-district: Honley
civil parish: Almondbury
county: Yorkshire
