George Pickard was born 1888/1890. He married Lydia Harrison in Hunslet Leeds on 27/1/1916 aged 26 (1890) and was a Soldier. His father was George, a highway foreman,

On the transcribed C0mmonwealth graves site he was born 1888 and died 31/7/1917

can anyone expand this info with regard to his birth date and or parents

thanks
dave

Edit - CW Graves trans says he was a native of London

Hi Dave

May be just a long shot...

EDIT: 1891
Civil Parish: Wortley
Ecclesiastical parish: New Wortley St John
County: Yorkshire
RD: Bramley
Sub RD: Wortley [Near Leeds]
ED: 21; RG12; Piece: 3679; Folio: 59; Page: 32

Sarah A Pickard 34 wid [b. Leeds. Tailoress]
Percy Pickard 8 [b. Leeds]
George Pickard 4 [do]
Eva A Pickard 8/12 [do]
David Mary 33 lodger [b. Leeds. Forgeman] On the image it looks like MAY, not Mary.

George and Eva's baptisms both cite May as a middle name on the images, father's name given as Pickard only, no occ. David is with the family up to 1911.

In 1901 Sarah says she's married

1901 Ref. Transcribed as Rickard, image looks like Pickard. RG13; Piece: 4210; Folio: 174; Page: 44

If we knew George's occ. when he signed up it may add some credence, the one in the previous post was something to do with Iron and Forges in 1911.

Hi,

The 1891 census for George Pickard born Leeds 1887 has a boarder with lodging with the family. A David Mary (May as per census image) his occupation is forgeman.

Class RG12
Piece 3679
Folio 59
Page 32

Dave David's occupation is forgeman not foreman.

Hi Julie

Yeah, the info in post #2 is a hypothesis. I should have made it more clear that the census cited is 1891, I'll edit to clarify it.

Also interesting was that says she was a widow in 1891 and married in 1901, yet no sign of a husband

Thanks Julie and Geoff

unless I have missed something, I cannot find anything to link them.

I found a record in 1901 which may be something - RG13-3692-208-8 for a George aged 11, born in Bethnal Green, in an industrial School for boys in Ardwick, Manchester.. This would tie in with a birth in London and place him near Leeds

Hi Dave

I've just found Sarah Ann in 1871 and she is a Pickard staying with family named Suffield, also says she is married. As you say nothing to link them. So possibly that one can be discounted..

This looks like the bap. of the George you found in 1901.

The image has DoB Feb 8 1889 written on the side. Father = George, labourer. Address: Boys' Home, Ardwick Green. No mother mentioned. It's the same parish as 1901.

George Pickard
Birth Date: 8 Feb 1889
Age: 17
Baptism Date: 4 Mar 1906
Parish: Ardwick, St Thomas
Parish as it Appears: Ardwick, St Thomas
Father: George Pickard
Reference Number: GB127.M273/1/2/6

Geoff

Edit: If that DoB is correct there are only 3 that would fit, two in Leeds and one in Barnsley..

Seeing Ozn's post in the other thread reminded me that George was also living in Lytton Terrace [8]. If you have access to the E/R's may be something to help.

This is the family living at no. 8 in 1911, may or may not be useful..

Civil Parish: Hunslet
Street address: 8 Lytton Terrace Hunslet Leeds
Occupation: Boiler Maker Riveter
RD: Hunslet
RD No: 501
Sub-RD: Hunslet

Janet Mary Tidswell 41 wife [b. Hunslet]
Harriet Ann Ward 20 step dau [do]
Nellie Ward 8 step dau [do]
