Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much.

For Catherine Hinton St Mary is Dorset as per census and not Somerset so another error.

Susan/Susanna Mary STILWELL is American.

Dave

Hi Dave

North Wales Chronicle (Bangor, Wales), Tuesday, January 30, 1849; Issue 1132.
AN INNOCENT CONVICT – The Maidstone Journal
Of Tuesday says: - “A few weeks since we
published an appeal to the public from Mrs.
Palmer, the wife of Mr. William Pemberton
Palmer, of Parramatta, Sydney, soliciting aid to
enable her to get up a case for the Secretary of
State, soliciting an examination of the illegal
conviction of her husband, on a charge of fraudu-
lently obtaining possession of a pleasure yacht
at Gravesend. The case laid before the govern-
ment was so strong as to effect a reversal of the
conviction, and Mr. Palmer was last week released
from the county prison, after enduring for four
months unjust incarceration as a felon”.

Another case where the birth is listed as 6 Mar 1809. It annoys me when people don't bother to check. How many of the pre-1837 dates are baptism dates and how many are birth dates? It's probably 80/20. It's not often you get the actual birth date also entered at time of baptism.

The line in my tree is through #7 Rodber Wylde.

Hello crankypants,

PALMER, George Thomas. Son of John Palmer, Commissary

Came free as lieutenant in the 61st Regiment per "Albion", 1806; between 7 May 1810 and 7 November 1811 acted as Provost Marshal in William Gore's absence; in 1813 appointed Superintendent of Government Stock but resigned in less than a year; resided at Parramatta; granted land at Bringelly in 1812; Magistrate dismissed in August 1822 and reinstated in November 1825.

PALMER, Catherine. Came free per "Albion", 1806; wife of George Thomas Palmer

Curious. I can't see the "Albion" on the list of convict vessels. Was it a RN ship with members of the 61st Regiment. ???

Albion (1) 21/10/1823 Spithead Van Diemens Land
Albion (2) 14/2/1827 Plymouth Port Jackson
Albion (3) 3/11/1828 Sheerness Port Jackson

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Eber Bunker returned in 1799 to New South Wales in command of a 362 ton whaling ship, Albion. This ship was built in Deptford, England.[5] Owned by Messrs Champion and registered in London, Albion was fitted with 10 guns and had a crew of 26.[6] Bunker and the Albion spent the next two winters whaling, first off the Australian coast and later the New Zealand coast. Bunker returned to Britain with a cargo of 155 barrels of whale oil.

Later in 1803, Bunker and the Albion were chartered by Governor King to carry the first settlers, along with stores and cattle, to Risdon Cove on the Derwent River in Tasmania. In August 1806, after the voyage to Tasmania, he arrived in Sydney as master of the Elizabeth, bringing his wife Margrett and five children from England to live with him. The Bunker family home in Sydney was in the Rocks over looking the harbor, at a place known as Bunker’s Hill.

So, who took command of the "Albion" and ... ???

Captain Bunker was able to boast a completely healthy crew when the Albion arrived into port. A year later when she called at Sydney again Albion was full with 1400 barrels of oil taken from the fisheries around New Zealand and off Sandy Cape. The next time Albion made an appearance in the South Seas she was commanded by Captain Skelton and called only briefly at the Bay of Islands after working off Cape Brett, before sailing back to London.

Hello crankypants,

The regiment was created by the redesignation of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Regiment of Foot in 1758, ranked as the 61st Regiment of Foot, and took a county title as the 61st (South Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot in 1782.

http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~garter1/tobegin.htm

No record of the 61st serving in NSW or NZ or Norfolk Is.

Balance of the New South Wales Corps Transports 1791- 1809
No mention of the "Albion" on that list.

Dave

Do you have anything that gives access to Hinton St Mary, Dorset baptisms for Catherine Irena PEMBERTON 1787?

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. Sarah married ROBERTSON but marriage not in IGI. The marriage of William & Catherine is in IGI. Ok, so Catherine Irena is not in IGI.

1. Sarah Pemberton - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 01 JAN 1792 Hinton-Saint Mary, , Dorset, England

Hello crankypants,

We have an equally reliable transcript which says that George Palmer was born on 27 [actually 26] April 1784. Before we can make any change to the entry therefore we're going to need to view a photocopy or scan of the original parish record.
:D It's either 26th or 27th but which is correct? :D

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Marriage # 3437/1874 PALMER REYNOLD H RILEY ANNE A P ORANGE

Anne Amelia Patterson/Pattison RILEY b. abt 1852 England

Parents:

Samuel RILEY b. ? d. bef 1859 ?

Married 1 : 21 Dec 1847 Manchester, Lancashire

Eliza Annie ACLAND b. abt 1826 d. 25 Oct 1889 Orange, NSW

Married 2: 31 May 1859 St John's Bishopthorpe

Thomas Joshua HOLLANDS b. ? d. ?

Curiously, it says Eliza had been in NSW 32 years so that means she arrived before her marriage in 1859

A son from 2nd marriage Thomas was born in Sydney in 1860 so I'd say she arrived between June 1859 and that birth. Even, funnier, there is a daughter Jessie born before Thomas

I can't see A A P's birth in 1852 or her arrival in Australia.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. I can't see a death in NSW for Thomas J HOLLANDS and so far I can't see mother and/or daughter or Jessie in shipping records as RILEY or HOLLANDS.

Hello crankypants,

It seems no point looking for Jessie in shipping records:

Deaths Mar 1858
Holland Jessie Islington 1b 189
Deaths Sep 1858
Holland Jessie Pancras 1b 79

I can't see the marriage for Thomas HOLLAND/HOLLANDS around 1859 in WRY. If it is 31 May 1859 Bishopthorpe then it's WRY RD= York - Sub-RD = Bishopthorpe.

Dave
