I have marriage details of Frances Bullivant marrying George W Hickingbottom in 1913 in Sheffield but the only birth date I can get is for a George William Hickingbottom in 1882 in Shardlow Derbyshire.

Do you think the wedding details got the initial wrong or is there a misspelled birth registration somewhere?

Can't get to Parish records at present.

Hi Duckweed
Did you mean Hickinbottom without the G for the marriage in 1913?

Looking at the original in Free BMD, there is a space between Hickin and bottom so perhaps the key the typist hit didn't register?

Let me know what you think.

I wonder if Ian Botham's family had this problem and shortened their name?
Ozn with a wink

In the free index for census 10yrs after 1901 there is a George W Hickinbottom
26yrs Sheffield West Riding.

I haven't got certificate. Just got info from Family Member. Can't find any children unless they moved to Birkenhead as there is a Stanley Hickenbottom born to a Bullivant and Hickenbottom there in 1915.

Hi Duckweed, you would think Stanley has to be a member of the family with surname and mother's maiden name.
Ches BMD have his birth at Tranmere.
Maybe they were just passing through?
I can't find any more kiddies.

Hi Duckweed
With so many variations of the surname it's hard to find George W in the military records in Anx, also we don't know his birthplace.
I think the marriage cert is the only way to go to get his father's name.
Have a good weekend.

Birthplace is Sheffield Mar 1885. Not sure exactly where. Fanny or Frances was born in Rotherham but she had a sister Mary Taylor in Sheffield and lots of other relatives too.

Brilliant. She was only daughter I hadn't traced in John Henry's family so now can follow up her family. There are not a lot of Hickenbottoms in Sheffield so should be able to trace in laws.

I have problems now as I have 3 Hickinbottom deaths.

HICKINBOTTOM, Louisa (wife of S Hickinbottom, age 66).
Died at 28 Baker Street; Buried on October 27, 1913 in Consecrated ground;
Grave Number 19, Section A5 of Burngreave Cemetery, Sheffield.
Parent or Next of Kin if Available: . Remarks: Officiating Minister, C Galleymore : Removed from Attercliffe.
Plot Owner: Samuel HICKINBOTTOM of 282 Baker Street.

HICKINBOTTOM, Samuel (Iron Worker, age 73).
Died at 28 Baker St; Buried on February 19, 1917 in Consecrated ground;
Grave Number 19, Section A5 of Burngreave Cemetery, Sheffield.
Parent or Next of Kin if Available: . Remarks: Officiating Minister J Thompson, Removed from Sheffield Parish

HICKINBOTTOM, Alice Maud (Spinster, age 30).
Died at 28 Baker S.; Buried on April 25, 1917 in Consecrated ground;
Grave Number 19, Section A5 of Burngreave Cemetery, Sheffield.
Parent or Next of Kin if Available: . Remarks: Officiating Minister J. Thompson, Removed from Sheffield Parish.

So if Samuel and Louisa are already dead, who is this Mrs Hickinbottom as obviously from same address? Mother in law the wife's side died in 1909.
