German immigration to America.

I have been showing an interest in all the ancestries of Americans which can be from all over the world.

English, Irish and German make up a huge amount of ancestry of Americans. A lot of African Americans have settled as well as Europeans.

I was reading that an estimated 51 million Americans claim German ancestry. I read once that in the 1840s and 1850s shortage of farming land in Germany lead to many emigrating 5000 miles to America which was similar to the Irish potato famine. About 7 million Germans emigrated to America in the 1800s.

I read the first Germans in America was in the 1670s/1680s.
