Hi Geoff.

Free BDM only shows the entry in the register book, not the actual detail, of who the mother and father are in the case of a birth.

I've been trying to find the Aunty Caroline, in Lambeth, but there are loads of them on the Birth register for 1839.

We know she's a Widow, and she was married to a Graham, but we have no idea who her husband was.

I guess a brother of William George, or else she would not know about George and Caroline, and want to help them, following what ever happend in Westminster.

Hi Geoff.

I've got a lot of the puzzle sorted out, but there are a few small problems.

I've got a Henry Walter Graham

Birth
1890 Sep
Westminster, London
St. Geo. H. Sq. 1a 457

Census
1891 Age: 1
18, Ship Court, Westminster London
Piece: 80 Folio: 57 Page: 18

Can you confirm he's part of my tree?

I've got so many people in my tree, I'll need to do some pruning soon. :D

Did he ever Marry?

Hi John

I looked at all the offspring and only found nothing more. I just rechecked Henry and still nothing. I notice he is down as Henry Graham on the census, there is an Ideal birth, the one you found, but there are a couple of others that would fit in West Ham and Camberwell

Just checking through some school directories. If I remember correctly it was compulsory for children to attend school up to age 10y from about 1880, I'm not sure how it was enforced, if at all at that time.

There is this, however:

Henry Graham
Age: 11
Birth Date: 28 Jul 1890
School: St James's School
Borough: Islington
Admission Date: 11 May 1902
Parent: William

Image says, Add: 3 Rice Place. Previous school: Gifford St. Last attended school: 21/11/02. Cause of leaving: Removal. There are also 2 brothers, Duncan b. 21/07/91 and John b. 06/03/94.

Both lads b. after the 1891 census.

Hello Geoff.

This is what I have on Henry so far, and nothing about two extra brothers, unless I've missed a post. I must admit, my family tree is getting rather large, and there is every chance I've made some mistakes.

Birth 1890 Sep
Westminster, London
St. Geo. H. Sq. 1a 457

Census 1891
Age: 1
18, Ship Court, Westminster London
Piece: 80 Folio: 57 Page: 18

Census 1901
Age: 11
Ashford Middlesex.
West London Poor Law Schools, Ashford, Middlesex

This can be discounted, found the family now and doesn't fit

Could do with some more like that.

The 1901 census has Joseph Gillman as an inmate he is classed as widower occupation painters labourer. I cant see the institutions name.

Hi John

It is acknowledged there was a lot of sadness and hardship in those times. But to see an entry that says it how the author wrote it, is an excellent piece of social history, in my view.
