This is a true story
A telephone operator manning the 999 service received a frantic call from a distruaght lady. She called out get the coppers quick but then rang off. With nothing to go on the operator tried ringing back, but no answer. She then asked BT to trace the call. It turned out that the call was from a small newsagents in the town centre. Police response was directed to the shop, but when they arrived they only found a startled man behind the counter, who had no knowledge of the call. Then a lady emerged from the rear of the premises and when asked if she had made the call said yes you asked me to get the police quick. With that the shopkeeper said, I was short of pennies and two pence pieces and wanted some from the safe.
