In my family tree it has lead me to meet up in person with distant cousins, some of whom are 3rd and 4th cousins.

My dad has a distant cousin in Suffolk. There fathers were first cousins, their paternal grandads were brothers. So they share 2 great grandparents. I am a 3rd cousin to my dads cousins children.

I contact them quite often and have even met up with 4th cousins from Australia.

Have any of you got into regular contact with more distant cousins?

Not me personally, I believe my first cousin who has done most of the research of one side of our family has. However, having got in touch with that cousin, I'm over the moon that my nephew whom I only met a couple of years ago has agreed that he would like to join me at my Regimental Branch Annual Lunch in London in June. So, folks, for me family research is totally wonderful, it brings joy and allows 'the tall stories, chewing the fat and swinging the lamp' that I used on a different thread. To say I'm impressed and happy is a massive understatement!:biggrin:

Not distance cousins, but just had a visit from my English cousins, my Dads sisters children. This was the first face to face time the two families have had since my Dad left to serve in the 2WW. It was very surprising how alike we are not just looks, but in temperament. Had a great time with them they also brought out a lot of books and photos for me.

Most of my grandparents siblings children I have never even met. Many live in a different area of the country now. Buckinghamshire, London, Durham etc. I have visited my mums cousin in Durham but that was 5 years ago and I have not seen them since.
