Hi Dave

That might be why I was struggling to find him.:D

This is the closest match I could find for a William WATERS, going by the Goodna district. His occupation is also Warder, probably worked at the same Asylum as Frederick GILBY.

1903 QLD Electoral Roll - Moreton - Goodna
WATERS Alice, Barram street, domestic duties
WATERS Frederick, Barram street, cabinet-maker
WATERS Sarah Ann, Barram street, domestic duties
WATERS William senr., Barram street, warder
WATERS William jnr., Barram street, labourer

Do you think we're on the right track!

Hello crankypants,

No, I blame the lamingtons :2fun:

Thanks. That's great because although I can't find her birth or her marriage it confirms it is Ann NIXON.

I have arranged for a look up of the Swaffham Prior records so I hope to have something next week.

There is a will of a Richard GILBY in Victoria.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Oh, this just arrived for Swaffham Prior etc...

Married 14 OCT 1828, William Gilby bachelor otp & Ann Nixson spinster otp both signed with X. Wits were William Nixson (x) and Silas Brinkley. Banns were called 5 Oct 1828.

Swaffham Bulbeck St Mary's - 16 May 1830, William son of William and Anne of Gt Swaffham, labourer.

Thomas, son of William & Ann of Swaffham Fen (BT says Swaffham Prior), labourer, chr 14 Oct 1832- no birthdate given.

This is an interesting one because it looks as though William remarried and one witness was his daughter:

26 Mar 1859 - Marriage of William Gilby (x) wdr full age labourer otp son of William farmer decd & Ann Heffer (x) wdr full age of Reach, Swaffham Prior dau of Spencer Hunt lab decd. Wits: James Dearsley & Sarah Ann Gilby.

Dave
