Hi

I'm new here so unsure how to go about things, so...

I noticed several posts in the above thread regarding

George Ernest Dwyer and Grace Irene Barwick (or Hastie) married 1934 NSW.
Grace born 1916 Hull Yorkshire.

I have information on both Grace and Ernie and would love to share information with the person seeking same.

Hello Felicity,

welcome to FHUK

The queries are mine although I'm not directly related. The connection to my tree is via Arthur GANDON.

Re Grace and HASTIE and WILLIAMS and BARWICK and HOPE I'm totally confused.

I presume this is the right marriage:

Marriages Jun Qtr 1925 - Hull 9d 624
Hastie Thomas & Williams Olga

Is this the right birth?

Births Dec Qtr 1916
Williams Grace - Hope Hull 9d 469

Thanks Dave for your reply.

Grace Irene Barwick married George Ernest Hainsworth Dwyer when she was 18 yrs old.

We are trying to put this family together and is how your enquiries caught our eye.

My husbands late wife (Margaret Rose Dwyer) was Grace's daughter. He has been trying to remember all the snippets from the past which are:

Grace came to Australia aged 11'ish with family relative (thought an uncle) and there was a step father and a son - names unknown.

Grace's parents were Samuel Barwick and Mary Elizabeth Woodhead. Mary died 1918 when Grace was only two. Have been told from Spanish Flu - there was a son Samuel born 1918 we have no idea if he lived or died. Other siblings are Edith M 1911, Thomas H 1913, Annie E 1899. There may be others. Samuel Barwick is from a line of fairground families. Mary possibly from a posh family. I don't know what happened to Samuel.

It can be safely said that Olga raised Grace from an early age hence the surname Hastie. What we are not sure of is who exactly is Olga - ie a Barwick or Woodhead or as you think a Williams. Do you know if I got Grace's marriage certificate as she was a minor if the parent/guardian would show on it??

We have a photo of Grace and one of her sister Annie.

I am told that there was an article written in the local (Manly/Harbord) area newspaper around 1970 when a sister came out from England to visit. Think the names could be Tom and Bella. They came again and brought her sister Edie with them on their next visit.

If I can sort Olga out I will be happy.

Regards

Felicity

Hello Felicity,

Thanks for those details.

I can add a bit more. I can also do some more searching with the info you have provided.

Sorry. It's a NSW marriage. I'm not sure what it will show re parents/guardians. Perhaps an email to BMD is worth trying.

Olga's death only lists father as James and I don't even know if that is correct.

Death Reg# 29891/1957 GANDON OLGA ANNIE - JAMES 66 YRS SYDNEY NEWTOWN

I have not yet found the right birth for Olga or even confirmed her maiden name was WILLIAMS. I don't have a copy of the 1925 marriage or found anyone who has the details.

Marriage in England 1880-1927 for Thomas HASTIE to Olga (not entering a family name) turns up only the 1925 one.

If it's not England then ... There is a Thomas HASTIE in Scotland.

Thanks Dave

Yes

Barwick Grace Irene is the right one.

Our guess is maybe adopted or just raised by the Hasties'. Maybe we'll have to but Olga"s death cert to see what it can tell us.

Hi Dave

Have just came across this entry on ancestry but can not view the record:

Olga Williams

Departure date 8 June 1888
Ship Orlando
Birth Abt 1885
Birth Place Finland
Age 6/2 ??
Destination Hull England

Gothenburg Sweden Passenger list

The location and timing is perfect. Could this be what I am looking for.

Hello Felicity,

That looks interesting. Perhaps that is 6/12 meaning 6 months. That would fit better with age 38 in 1927.

As far as the marriage and death certificates for Grace go I think they will add more but may not provide all the answers.
