Hi Everybody,
Please someone help before I meet myself coming back!
In the 1861 Census I found my GGGran married to a guy named Lancelot Bromwell (Posh or what) living in Old Hall St. Kearsley with her 4 Kids Catherine (16) Mary(12) Michael(10) * Ann(8) & 3 more kids Bridget (6) Margaret(3) & Thomas (1) Bridget & Margaret can"t be Mary"s kids as her first hubby James did"nt die until 1858, but Thomas probably is. However after that zilch!
I can find no birth records for the Bromwell 3 no marriage date for Mary & Lancelot, no trace in later Census records & no death records either. It"s as if everyone has disappeared into thin air. I realise Catherine & Mary could be married, & Michael I have found in 1871 Census inthe Army, but the others NOTHING!
Please some kind soul help me unravel all this.
Happy Hunting Everyone
Luv Littlemo xx

Hi Littlemo,

Havnt really found anything on the family, but found this.

Looked for a death for a Lancelot ---- found this one Lancelot Brannon born abt 1824 died 1871. Looked him up on the 1871 census and found a Lancelot Brannon (but could be Bramwell) age 48 widow born Ireland occ
lab in chemical works (civil parish Windle, RD Prescott, Sub RD St. Helens).

Hi Joyce & Julie,
Thanks so much for your help. I think you are on the right track Julie, as he was born in Ireland, in 1861 his job was a Chemical worker & he was38, so all that fits, also if he was a widower that means Mary is already dead, & would explain Michaels being in the army by then.
I think it is so confusing because of all the different spellings you get for a Surname depending on where you look.
And Joyce, the old saying we have aroud here when wwe are confused is: Hell Fire, I feel like I"m going round in Circles and meeting myself coming back. So No it"s not a very good feeling.
I really am most grateful for your help, I will try to find out when Mary died by using a different spelling of the surname
Thanks again Guys
Luv Mo xx

Hi again

1851 census Eccleston, Preston, Lancashire - Lancelot transcribed as:-

Lancelott BRANNON visitor b. abt 1824 age 27 Labourer Ireland.

You say Mary's 1st husband died in 1858, is it possible he died earlier as Mary remarried in 1856.

This may not be your Mary but will include this marriage just in case Mary's maiden name rings a bell.

James DONNELLY
Mary TRAVERSE

1843 Prescot, Lancashire

Hi Crankypants,
You really are a Star going to all this trouble, I bet you hav"nt had time to research your own family with all the effort you are putting in on mine. I really can"t thank you enough & please do let me know if there is anything I can help you with. I noticed you hav"nt put the names you"re researching on your profile.
It may take me a day or 2 to sift through the info you"ve given me & compare it to what I have.
I can get Census info but it seems that the info you get vary"s from Site to Site, also I"m fairly new to this Family Ancestry & also to using a Computer, so this combined with my fairly advanced age  makes me a bit slow.
The Info I have on the Donnelly"s is that James Donnelly married Mary nee Welsh i Prescot St. Helens in 1843. They had 4 Kids Catherine abt.1846 Mary abt 1848 Michael (My GGGrandad) 1851 & Ann born? all in Prescot. According to the info I had James ied in Prescot in 1858 but strangely enough I have come across the name Travers, so whether I"ve gone astray & there were 2 Family"s of Donnelly"s I don"t know!
Anyway thanks again Crankypants & I will be in touch again soon. By the way would you mind if I put you on my Buddy List?
Happy Hunting

I'll shut up now Mo.

Hi Littlemo

Happy to help if I can, also I love the challenge. Should mention my addiction is family history.
Sometimes I get into a rut or should I say stuck with my husband's tree. My side is all European and that's pretty difficult to research. I am also working on my husband's 2nd cousins tree.

I found the marriage you mention on this link. Could not find on Freebmd.
http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/

1843 Prescot, St.Mary's
DONNELLY James & WELSH Mary

I found a Michael DONNELLY in the 1891 census living in the same district as his sisters Ann KELLY and Catherine HYLAND. Michael is on (page 20) of the Leigh District and Ann & Catherine on (page 5), sisters living in same street in Leigh.

1891 census
Michael DONNELLY b. Abt 1852 age 39 St. Helens, Lancashire (General Labourer)
Elizabeth DONNELLY b. Abt 1866 age 25 East Indies
Walter J DONNELLY b. Abt 1886 age 5 Ireland
Joseph DONNELLY b. Abt 1888 age 3 Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Mary F DONNELLY b. Abt 1890 age 7mths Leigh, Lancashire

I couldn’t find Michael in 1881 census, it’s possible though he was in Ireland or at sea as his first child was born there.

I will add the surnames I am searching, someone out there may be related, wishful thinking.
If there is anything else I can help with just yell out.

Hi Steve, where is the buddy list!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great day
Cheers

Hi Crankypants & Steve,
First off Steve, how dull my day would be without a ribbing from you:biggrin: And too right if Paxo were dangled in front of me you would"nt see me for dust OAP or not!
And Crankypants, if Family History is your addiction, then this is defo the Site for you & other addicts such as ourselves, since I found this Site I have managed to cut down on Housework, Shopping, Washing & Ironing & Cooking, because I now spend so much time on the Laptop, economies have had to be made in less important areas. Oh! I forgot to mention Eating!Steve has posted a Wonderful Recipie for Stew which can last all week somewhere on here, he"s a proper little Mrs Beeton:2fun:
If you click on to the Quick Links Crankypants at the top , Open Buddy List is one of the options, click on that & it"s easy. (Hark at me giving tips to Other Folk! I"m getting too clever by half)
The Family in the 1891 Census are mine, but I also found a Thomas Meledy lodging with them,(He is Elizabeth"s brother) & as Iv"e also found a Marriage date for him I"m hoping if I get the Certificate it will give me some help on the Meledy"s who are very elusive with thwm being born in India, as you said about your European Side it is difficult.
I will be in touch again soon
Happy Hunting,
Luv Littlemo xx

Hi Crankypants (Love your name)
It"s me again! Iv"e checked that marriage in 1856 that you gave me between Mary & Launcelot(You"re right that"s how its spelt) but unless she was a bigamist I can"t understand it. I was positive that James died in Prescot in 1858 so unless Bigamy does run in the Family I"m totally confused:confused:
The marriage sounds right though, because surely there can"t have been that many Guy"s called Launcelot around at the time. If that"s so then she must also have been Bridget Margaret & Thomas"s mum as well, so why didn"t I find them in the Census I looked up on a different site to the one I"m using now. (I"m talking paying ones here.) Do they all give out different info do you know?
Now I really am going round in Circles & meeting myself coming back, will be in touch again when I meet myself in the middle:eek:
Happy Hunting
Luv Mo xx

Hi Littlemo

Had to laugh when I read out your previous post to my husband.
He mentioned how he liked the new decor around the house, (meaning all the cobwebs). As for cooking the slow cooker is my best friend.

Anyway I found a James DONNELLY death in Dec Qtr 1853 Preston.
You never know she may of left him or him her!!!!! Bigamy was fairly common back in those days.

Not sure about the 2 major paid census sites. "A.COM" I think from what I've read "F.M.P" may be more accurate. I use "A.COM"

Cheers
