I have been told that the maker is:
Eaton and Wrighton of Birmingham. Their E&W mark first registered at Chester in 1902 and re-registered most recently in 1959.
Which ties in with the 1920 date letter, where as I would have thought it was 1745, but now I'm completely stumped as to why the ring would have been created, unless it was to replace a broken or lost ring, but it also has the family moto inscribed, I'm lost
