grandad in 1st world war

i know one of my grandads was in the first world war as i have his medals but the question is which one , is there any way of finding out ? either William George wensley born march 1888 died Dec 1967 or richard ridd born 1903 died June 1976 any help please

Hi Libby,very much doubt it was Richard Ridd,he would have only been 11 when the war started:biggrin:

So it must have been George Wensley.....are you sure it is a first World War medal?
Richard could have served in WW2 though George would have probably been to old.

So my humble opinion says it belongs to George Wensley

There is a medal card for a William George Wensley on the National Archives at Kew.

Have a look on the side of the medal which should have a name and service number.

On the Ancestry site he is under Geo. Wm Wensley on the medal card index.

if they are ww1 medals..his name,regiment and number will be on the RIM of the medals ....have a look
