Great Bardfield, Essex 1951

I am attempting to fill in census gaps in my maternal tree, I have my Great Grandfather born 1840 (Abraham White/ Thorogood) in Great Bardfield to Joseph White / Thorogood (Born 1806in Bardfield Saling, Essex)and Mary Ann White/ Thorogood (maiden name Mason) born 1798 Clare, Sufolk. but I cannot find the census for Great Bardfield in 1851, Joseph died 1862 in Great Bardfield. This family changed names in about 1804 when Josephs father John(b 1787 Little Bardfield) married Elizabeth Thorogood (b 1786 Stebbing) in 1804, not sure why the name change? Was there census records for 1851 in Great Bardfield please.
