Hi

I did find out 2 years ago that my great, great uncle Edgar Frank Taylor born May 1892 joined the Army in 1918 from Great Stambridge, Essex and the records state he wed in October 1917 at Waltham Holy Cross and he had a daughter Rosie Lilian Taylor born on the 12th April 1918.

I looked on the SEAX Essex website and they have the marriage registers for that period for Waltham Holy Cross and low and behold I found that he was a police constable of New Road Cottages, Waltham Abbey and one of the witnesses was my great grandmother Olive Mary Titshall who lived in Rochford, 40 miles away. So my grandfathers uncle was a policeman.

Ben

Do you know what his rank was, when he died Ben.?
Not sure yet but he died in 1977 I think. In 1917 when he wed he would have been 25 and was just a police constable. He joined the Army in May 1918 but was discharged in January 1919 from the Coldstream Guards. He then moved to Paddington where he had a few more children. I dont know if he went back to the police after he left the army. On the Ancestree London electoral rolls he is living in Paddington. I think he had a son Raymond Edgar Taylor born 1923 in Paddington and a daughter Dorothy, siblings of Rosie born 1918 in Charlton, London.

Update. No he died on the 6th February 1953 at St Columbus Hospital, Swiss Cottage, Hampstead, according the the probate indexes and effects to Rose Lilian Taylor, widow. They were of Third Avenue.

The 1977 death was another Edgar Taylor.

I found his start date and leaving date. It took a while but I got there. Edgar Frank Taylor joined the police on the 28th December 1914. He left on the 27th July 1944 and was a police sergeant when he left.

These are indexes of attestations and leavings. Took me a while but I got there in finding his dates. That will help to finding his records.
