That's great - thanks Ben. :)

Here is the census ref of my g/g/grandfather Edward Marchant in 1871, in Salford.

RG10; Piece: 4018; Folio: 126; Page: 18

On his marriage certificate of 1865, he gave his name as Edward Newman McNeil Marchant. In early census returns, his name was Merchant.

The 1871 census is the last sighting I have of him, so if you can find anything, I would be really grateful.

Best wishes,

Josie

Any chance he went back up to Scotland?

I looked at what records & directories i have but he does not appear on anything on either spelling of his surname?

There is on Cemsearch weaste cemetery:
MERCHANT In 1 Grave A Total Of 3 People
&
MARCHANT In 2 Graves A Total Of 13 People

Trouble is it cost to get the info:
Surname Reports in Weaste Cemetery Cost £6.00 Sterling.
But they do update you with any new ones they come across at no extra charge.

Thank you very much, Ben for taking the time and trouble! :)

I think £6 is a small price to pay. Even if my g/g/granddad isn't there, I will probably get some information on my other relatives.

Best wishes,

Josie

Thanks Ben, Most of my ancestors are buried at Moston. My great granddad, Abraham Marchant is buried in the Catholic section, even though he was a Presbyterian! Abraham is the son of Edward, who went AWOL after 1871!

Thanks for your continued interest!

thanks for that, my great grandmother Florence Pounder is buried in Southern Cemetary there with her sister Rose Anne McKenna, adoptive or real mum Rose Anne Smith (long story see my thread ??? )and her sister's husband Alex McKenna.

No sign of Rose Anne Smith's husband William Henry Smith though which is a mystery.

Southern Cemetery IRoman Catholic 849 1 Rose Ann Smith
Southern Cemetery IRoman Catholic 849 2 Florence Pounder
Southern Cemetery IRoman Catholic 849 3 Alexander McKenna
