Joseph was listed as head of the family on the sensus of 6 June 1841 in HIGH STREET, BLUE TOWN, SHEERNESS, KENT ENGLAND. He was also listed as head of the household in the census of 30 March 1851 at LOWER BRITTON STREET, GILLINGHAM, KENT, ENGLAND.
Joseph was a druggist and living with his wife and children, however his wife was staying with their son William on the night of the census as his wife had just given birth to their first child William.
