I have been here today and I now have a much clearer picture of how the ancestors of mine spent their time in the workhouse, and the admission and discharge procedure.

It also has a farm near a river and it is well worth a trip, deep in the heart of rural west Norfolk. Has anyone been here as well?

Here are some photos from my day out at Gressenhall.

The workhouse admission room. I felt at home as I have done so much research on workhouses while tracing ancestors esp the London ancestors who ended up in St Pancras, Marylebone workhouses etc.

The workhouse tour. I really did experience what it was like for ancestors such as Thomas Roberts and William Thomas Coombs and Sarah Bradford, formerly Coombs, nee unknown.

More to come.
