I always seem to hit a bit of a brick wall on this surname. So I'm hoping that maybe someone out there can give me a little bit of help.

My Great Grandfather was Ernest Griffin. He was born somewhere in the mid to late 1800's, somewhere around the Peterborough area, though I'm not sure exactly where. He worked as a railwayman on the east coast main line from London to Edinburgh. I always thought he was a guardsman, but I have since been told that he was a driver on such engines as The Mallard & the Flying Scotsman.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, so maybe there's someone out there who could do a look up for me please.

Hello Middy,

what was your grandfathers name please? I think I might have found your gt grandfather in the 1901 census, but need some sort of verification from you.

Did your gt grandad have Garnet as a brother in the family?

Hi Darkcrystal. Ernest Griffin was father to my grandmother Ida Minnie Griffin, she was born in Peterborough in June 1907. She had a younger brother also by the name of Ernest.

All I know about Ernest Griffin senior is that he worked on the railways. I'm not sure if there were any siblings....sorry.

hiya,

right then, :) do you have your grandmothers birth cert? or her marriage certificate?

If you have her birth cert (or know anyone that might have a copy) then you will get both parents names and enable us/you to get into the 1901 census

This is what I've got so far.

Ida Minnie Griffin, born in Peterborough on 18th June 1907. Her father is Ernest Griffin, & her mother is Emily Bessie Griffin, nee Turner.

Another bit of information I have, (although I'm not sure it will be any help), is that Ernest Griffin's Great Grandfather was a John Griffin, born in 1801.

Hi Middy,

The family that Julie (Dark Crystal) found are living in Peterborough with the father Richard Griffin his occupation is a railway engine driver. To confirm the fathers name and occupation, Ernests marriage certificate will confirm his fathers name, occupation as well as giving Ernests age.
