Hello Steve,
Thank you very much. It was a 50/50

chance you would find that couple given this:
Marriages Dec 1859
Griffiths John Newport M 11a 245 ***
Morgan Maria Newport M 11a 245
Sainsbury James Newport M 11a 245
Scott Temperance Newport M 11a 245 ***
I know this is way out of Fenway Park
= 'left field' - about a 1 in 100,000 chance probably that Walter was their son.
I know very little about Walter and was guessing from his middle name that his mother's name was SCOTT.
An obituary of a town planner, W. Scott-Griffiths, is in the Observer,
23 March 1929, page 20d.
He died in Australia in 1929 and was born in 1864. I found these:
Births Jun 1864
GRIFFITHS Walter Dudley 6c 141
GRIFFITHS Walter Llanelly 11a 651
Births Sep 1864
GRIFFITHS Walter Cardiff 11a 212
so I thought it was a possibility he was from Wales. I can't find a bio or any info re his parents. I wish people who know the year of an event would also mention the place.
He was in Australia by 1899 when he married but I can't find him in shipping records. His death reg does not mention place of birth or parents although a full copy of the death certificate might.
He appears as W. Scott / Walter S. / Walter Scott GRIFFITHS and Walter SCOTT-GRIFFITHS.
He was a town planner so it's possible his father was also or described as an architect, surveyor, or draftsman. I still believe he was born in UK.
I've gone through the 1881 UK census for a Walter GRIFFITHS born anywhere 1864 +/- 2 years and nothing stands out.
Regards,
Dave
