Hi Jean :)
Thanks for lovely reply.
I'll list this, it could be something or nothing, keep to one side.
There's a George Groat who went to N.S.W assisted passage from Glasgow,
his origin is Wick.
25 yrs old he's an A.B on the ship.
arr 1886 16th March.

1861 not sure if you have this?
75 Unicorn St Portsea (quite a few here but each listed as a household)
Ewings 25 shipwright bn Scotland
Annie 20 bn Devon.

Hi Jean

Can you tell us how Ewings is related to you? Apart from 1861 census, I cannot find any trace of any of the family. I wondered if, being a shipwright, he actually worked on a ship and travelled with it.

( I was born in Cottingham, what area are you in?)

hi dave lambert.
thanks fr reply, sorry i have not got back to you sooner on this about ewings groat but i have been ill and just starting to go through my files ect..
ewings groat is related to me through my grandfather, ewings parents where my 3x greatgrandparents. george groat b 1798 canisbay caithness. and janet hunter b 1802 in ireland. george was a mariner and they lived in wick. we are told the name was altered by john ogroats, to groats, so have to look this one up. as you will see i am searching for more of my scottish roots/
i live in hull east yorkshire i am still looking for info on ewings all i seem to do is hit a brick wall, like to know what happened to him from leaving scotland and family to going to portsea ect.
my kindest regards to you.......jean..........:)
