Hi all,

Have been transcribing details of my grandparents and rechecking details.
Was reading my grandmothers marriage certificate and came across a puzzlement

My GM - Winifred Mary Rebecca BELL - was 15yrs old when she married my GF - Benjamin Theodore SUTTON - on 24th Feb 1923. She was 6mths pregnant at the time :eek:
Consent to marry was given by Arthur Charles Leitch BAYLIS - he was the Court appointed Guardian of Minors at the time.

Can someone explain why permission was not given by her mother, Gladys May BELL nee HAGON? She had been divorced for about 4yrs and the ex-husband was living in Victoria at the time. Why would they need court permission?
