The Diocese of Elphin is a huge area which covers several counties. You have mentioned Sligo so I assume you have information that says your family came from that county. You haven’t said what denomination the family was. Do you know and do you have any idea where in the county they may have lived?

If they were Church of Ireland then it’s only fair to explain that not all parishes have records back to the 1700s and early 1800s. Many were lost in the 1921 fire in the Public Record Office in Dublin. And much of what survives is not on-line. The RC records are also patchy with many parishes starting in the mid 1800s. However most of their records are on-line, on the nli site.

If you know which parish your ancestors lived in, and what denomination they were, I’ll check and see what records exist.

I looked at the 1901 census for Co Sligo. There were 49 people named Hamilton. 27 were RC, 2 Presbyterian and 20 Church of Ireland. There was no-one named Purdue anywhere in the county.

I would say that the Irish information doesn't contain enough specific details to be able to pinpoint any records that might realistically help with your research. DNA matches are probably your best bet, in the hope that you link into someone with more specific information about the family origins.
