Hello I'm wondering If anyone can help me.

I have some basic information with regards to my great grandfather Harold Godfrey but all of sudden ita dried up. He was born 26th october 1895 in Middleton and died 21st February also in Middleton. I have census records up until 1911 but from there it dries up and I'm struggling to find what he did for the rest of his life as an occupation etc. I have nobody i can ask so I'm literally just searching until I can match things up with what I have. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hello both. It is middleton uk. I do know he married an Elizabeth Anderson 5th march 1927. His parents were a Henry and Hariett Mark's I believe

Doing a cursory search for Harold Godfrey, his marriage gives his occupation as Drop Stamper, aged 31.. Fathers Occ, was a Wagon maker. (This ties up with 1911 & 1901 census).

A Drop Stamper would be working a press, that either stamps out parts, or presses in details on a piece of metal..eg. Coins or Medals etc. Larger parts could well be things like saucepans. It depends where he was working, or what size of machine he operated. Could also be stamping out Rail Carriage Wagon or truck Wheels.

Elizabeth Anderson was a widow, aged 34. Fathers name was James Wensley, Occ, Plumber(Deceased).

1939 Register, his occupation is a Electric Welder.(Heavy Worker).

Hope this helps.

Steve.:)
