Hello

I was wondering if anyone could help me with some hurdles. My 2nd great uncle Harold Hulme son to Edmund Hulme and Marth J Hulme (swindells) was baptised in 1895 in Oldham. I have him on the census in 1911 living in Hollinwood, Chadderton. Now Ancestry and FMP are throwing up potential military records under the name Harry Hulme with one record in particular being in Canada with a birth location of Manchester. I have found some Potential travel documents etc. I've also found a Harold Hulme on the 1939 register married to a Emily Boff but i can't track that marriage anywhere. Can anyone shed any light for me.

Thank you in advance

I already know his parents. I just don't know if he moved to Canada and joined the Canadian forces or where this marriage pops up. I don't know if I have the right record for the 1939 registry

Have you Emily’s date of birth from the 1939 register? Asking as there’s a death for a Emily Boff -1989 Oldham - birth 23 August 1905, the same year as the Emily on the 1939 register.

Ok so the death i made notes on matches what you have found which is great.

The 1939 register has Emily down as Emily Boff (Hulme). Why would Hulme be in brackets if not married. I'm asking as I've never seen that before so that's why I presumed a marriage.

Thank you very Much for your help with this

She was probably was known as Hulme. I can’t find a birth in England and Wales for a Emily Boff or similiar. There is a marriage in 1934 Oldham - Harold Hulme - possible spouse Emily Bailey. At the moment not found a connection between Boff and Bailey.

1901 census has

Martha J Hulme widow 49 b Manchester Lancs and family – Harold age 5

The chap Harry Hulmes b Manchester 3 July 1897 died 3 March 1971 – so wrong birthdate & looking at a marriage cert for him to Christina in 1925 (canada) funny enough same 1st names as your chap but Mother was a Martha nee Pennington – this was the chap who enlisted in Canada

Martha Jane Hulme nee Swindles died Jan 1919 age 69 Oldham

Harold was still living at home in 1911, age 15 and iron foundry worker at no 7 Off Wharfe st, Hollinwood Chadderton, Oldham

There is a death for a Harold Hulme age 53 Jan qtr 1949 Oldham

1939 census has birthdate of 27 June 1895 married and a coalman with Emily wife b 21 Aug 1905

The only marriage I can find is Harold Hulme to a Emily Bailey Oct qtr 1934 Oldham.
