Harry Boyce Rumbold

I'm looking for Harry Boyce Rumbold born in Portsea, Hampshire in 1868. Could someone look him up please in the 1871 census? His mother was named Eliza Rumbold. I would appreciate as much detail as possible.

There is a Harry Boyce Rombold, baptised in Britford, Wiltshire, in 1871. Mother, Eliza Rumbold. No father mentioned.

Sorry, I can't see much else, apart from his two marriages, one to Sarah Ann Ash in 1893, the other to Sarah Ann Elliot in 1900.(He was a widow at the time of this 1900 marriage).

Which would suggest that his son Joseph E.H. Rumbold, (c1895. Britford,Wilts)in the 1901 census, is the son of Sarah Ann (nee.Ash).

Elizabeth Rumbold b 1845 Durnford Wiltshire married John Fisher March qtr 1869 Portsea Island Hampshire.

John Fisher b 1842 Crawley Kent died 31 Oct 1872 Southampton Hampshire.

*** there is also a Elizabeth Rumbold age 28 b Durford Wiltshire in 1871 census at Durnford as a cook/servant and states unmarried..

Harry is still using Fisher and in 1881 he's with his Grandmother Ann Rumbold widow age 60 b at 51 Cottage - Britford Wiltshire, age 12 a ag labourer and name is Henry B Fisher

1891 he's changed back to Harry B Rumbold now age 22 and still with his grandmother Ann Rumbold at Britford Wiltshire.

Harry married 1st to Sarah Ann Ash March qtr 1893 Alderbury Wiltshire & they had son Joseph E H Rumbold.. Sarah dies July qtr 1897 Salisbury Wiltshire.

1901 Harry's re -married and 2nd wife is Sarah A nee Elliott b 1874 Birmingham - married June qtr 1900 Aston Warwickshire and son Joseph Edward H Rumbold age 6 is with them.

As to what happened to his mother - she could have remarried.. or died as there are a few to match either names of Fisher or Rumbold.

It possibly could be his Grandmothers maiden surname. I think you would benefit by getting his birth cert, that may reveal more info. But it may not.

Boyce is a modern variation of DuBois, Scottish/Norman. But don't get carried away with that, or hung upon it.:biggrin:
