"Having A Blue"

"Having a Blue" is an Australian expression from our very early days. I wonder if anyone from UK have heard of it.

It means 2 things that i know of, men would just came up to me for no reason and say in angry manner "Do you want a Blue" mate.If you said no they would still king hit you anyway.

The first is to have a fist fight or fight in general. I was challenged to plenty of "Blues" in my young drinking days as there was always someone in the hotels half stung looking for a fight.

The other is that all red headed men in Aussie are called "Blue" or "Bluey"
Why? i don't know but it could be because most red headed people were hot headed or bad tempered.

It's Just another Australian slang word but i am curious how it came about
