Something is not right.

Mother may not be Anne.

Error with initial E.

All the records in Australia have her name as Helen.

Marriage in Vic.
The Argus (Melbourne, Vic.) - Sat 3 Jan 1885 p.1
Marriages.
WOODRUFF - THATCHER.-On the 23rd ult., by special licence, at Christ Church, South Yarra, by the Rev. Horace F. Tucker, William John Mackay, only son of the late John Woodruff, H. M. Customs, Melbourne, to Helen, eldest daughter of the late Charles E. Thatcher, of Brighton, England.

Back to this one and still chasing Helen.

I don't see how she could have been born in NZ and be the eldest daughter. There is no birth in the NZ index for any Thatcher that would fit.

Arrival not found. Age at death not found.

In the 1841 census Sophia is the eldest daughter.

Should the marriage notice say eldest surviving daughter or youngest daughter ??

1861
RG09/599/F88/p8
57 Kings Road, Brighton, Sussex
Sophia Matilda Thatcher Widow 50 Curiosity Dealer London
Sophia Matilda Thatcher dau 32 Brighton
Emma Thatcher dau 37 Brighton
George Thatcher son 22 Brighton
Amelia Thatcher dau 18 Brighton

Sophia appears to be the eldest daughter in 1851/61/71 and 81 Censuses. She was born 1 March 1829 and was registered nonconformist 6 January 1837 along with siblings Charles Robert (born 21 August 1830), James Herbert (born 26 May 1832), Annie Elizabeth (16 January 1834) and Manning (19 August 1835). No baptisms/registrations for other siblings who appear on the 1851 Census
Amelia Jun 1842 Brighthelmston 7 260 mmn Horsey
Catherine Damaris Mar 1845 Brighthelmston 7 279 Horsey
Tracey Dec 1847 Brightelmson 7 290 Horsey

Also Richmond Thatcher Mar 1841 Brighthelmston 7 262 Horsey
Richmond is a pupil at a private school in Lewes in 1851 then he disappears but no death found.

Annie Elizabeth dies Jun 1838 Brighhelmston 7 197 aged 4

No sign of a Helen/Ellen anywhere. Do the records give an age/dob for her?

Thanks emeltee.

The Sydney Morning Herald - Tue 9 Nov 1943 p.8
DEATHS
WOODRUFF.-November 7, 1943, at her daughter's residence, Mosman, Helen Woodruff.
Privately interred.

No age in death notice. Burial not found not that all have age at death. Will and probate just have date of death.

If we don't have the right Charles Robert then we need another one in Brighton married to an Anne ??
