Hi there... I am very new to all this. My family history on my fathers side is something of a mystery to me. Little is known or can be remembered by surviving relatives.

The name I am interested in is Folwell. My father believed born in Haselbech, Northants. Moved to Rockingham (just outside Corby) while quite young. His father had a tithe cottage. So I surmise farming related.

Are there any Folwell's out there possibly related or not?

Hi Martin,
welcome to the FHUK community forums.

You need to have his date of birth and possibly the place. I would guess that your father would of been born after 1901, which would be harder to find online, unless you join Ancestry or some other online database. You really need to get hold of his birth certificate to get further information on his parents.

As you do not live too far from Northampton, I would suggest visiting the archives there. But go prepared so you do not waste time.

I had come to the same conclusion. The archivist has given me some pointers already to parishes where Folwells may be found. I will keep you and all posted.

My surname if Folwell, as far as im aware my father was born in Market Harborough (son of Abert Folwell), believe there is some connection with a butchers shop!, later moved to Corby.

I am living in Manchester.
